Comparing School Ratings the Right Way
July 24, 2026 · 2 min read
How to read school ratings, and what they do and don't tell you, when choosing a new-construction community.
School ratings are useful but easy to over-rely on. A single letter grade or score doesn't capture everything that matters for your child.
What ratings capture
Most ratings blend test scores, growth, and sometimes graduation rates. They're a helpful starting filter, but two schools with the same score can feel very different in person.
Look beyond the number
- Programs that fit your child (arts, STEM, languages, special education)
- Class sizes and teacher retention
- Commute and before/after-care options
- Whether zoning is stable or under review
We surface nearby schools and ratings on community pages, and help you weigh them alongside the factors a rating can't measure.
